Although Joomla! is a great platform, it isn't for everyone. Recently I have been working on customizing themes for WordPress to use for sites. While you can buy a commercial plugin to handle images in Joomla!, in WordPress it is now built in. Their software has a dialog to let you upload a graphics file from your local computer in a web browser, but in addition it creates a thumbnail, medium, and large version of the image automatically to the dimensions you specify in the dashboard.
I remember spending hours resizing images for static web pages, then using FTP to transfer them to the server.
WordPress still distinguishes between posts and static pages. Technically that is just a database entry. I am hearing that many WordPress users don't even keep a blog, they use WordPress as a web design program. |

Look out Facebook! I installed the Community Builder component yesterday. You will see new stuff with CB in the name. Now when you register, you can add more information and "friend" other people. |

I have been working on modification of the Beez template to prepare the Montgomery Underground Winery site for a Joomla! version 1.5 upgrade.
The look of this template can be seen by logging in (you must be registered) and selecting beez_muw from the Template Changer drop-down menu, then click the Select button.
I am still tweaking it, so there may be changes and the template thumbnail probably won't exactly match.
There appear to be some errors that came in when I upgraded this installation from Joomla! version 1.0 -- some of these were patchable, but I am thinking that since their site is small, it is probably better to start with a fresh Joomla! 1.5 install and database, then announce that a new site is under construction and let the users watch as it forms. Joomla! has a handy utility where you can message registered users.
Update - September 2009: We decided to use WordPress instead. Joomla! has lots of features but after careful consideration we decided that a blog format would be better. The Joomla! site is scheduled to be removed on September 30, 2009. |
